Adjoa Adjei-Twum is Founder & CEO of Emerging Business Intelligence and Innovation (EBII) Compliance and an astute intellect in African Economic Development. She is a Financial Crime Compliance Expert with over a decade of international experience helping organisations meet their compliance requirements in the financial sector, especially in Anti-money laundering and Economic Sanctions.

Some of her work has included conducting investigations into sanction breaches and circumvention as well as leading the Panama Papers investigations (investigating the exposure of the offshore finance industry) across various lines of business at Barclays as well as providing a solution to ensure the bank had sufficient controls in place to mitigate any such future risk. Adjoa has held Senior Management positions across the financial sector. Her most recent position was Head of Global Training and Communications for Chief Controls Office (CCO) at Barclays Bank Plc.

Throughout her career, Adjoa actively engages with businesses globally upskilling them with a range of compliance training courses to enable them engage more effectively with financial institutions. One of her expertise is the Sub-Saharan -African and MENA region where Adjoa provides advice and training on best practices for engaging with Western institutions. In 2019, Adjoa partnered with Oxford University Innovation to deliver a Due Diligence Masterclass at the 2019 Oxford Africa Conference targeted at Businesses in Sub Saharan Africa.

EBII Compliance was Founded in 2018 in partnership with Oxford University Innovation. As a Postgraduate Alumni at Oxford University, and Oxford Africa Conference Partnerships Manager 2019, Adjoa has been passionate about developing relationships with high level partners interested in shaping a better Africa.”

Asie Arkhurst started her career over a decade ago in financial services with a start-up trade mediation and payment services company, where she worked in corporate development and project managed investor due diligence processes among other activities. She currently works in finance for the most geographically diverse banking group in Sub-Saharan Africa, Ecobank; where she manages the capital portfolio of the bank and its affiliates and is involved in its capital raising efforts and activities. Asie was most recently instrumental in the launch of the company’s first ever Eurobond which successfully raised half a billion dollars. Prior to her current role, she worked in Group strategy, assisting the C-suite and board of Ecobank with the formulation and implementation of the Bank’s strategy across its 36+ banking affiliates and offices. She co-founded the company’s first lean in circle in Lomé.

She has an advanced degree from Said Business School (Oxford), an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance, first-class honors from the University of Ghana

Elorm is an experienced international relations professional and project manager, with extensive experience of working in the UK parliament. He currently leads the UK Parliament’s efforts in strengthening trade relationships with other parliament’s across the Commonwealth.

He has sat on the Senior Management team of a youth employment charity, and fed into the diversity strategy of various multinational and public sector organisations. His experience expands internationally as he has worked on projects with senior figures from the United Nations, the World Bank, International Monetary Fund in Washington DC, The Parliament of New Zealand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana.

Elorm holds a BA in Politics and an MA in Global Citizenship, Identities and Human Rights from The University of Nottingham

Wamkele Mene was elected by the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of States & Government of the African Union, to the position of Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

Prior to being elected Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, he served as Chief Director: Africa Economic Relations, at the Department of Trade & Industry of South Africa. In this role, he was South Africa’s chief trade negotiator in the AfCFTA and Tripartite FTA negotiations. During his tenure as chief negotiator, South Africa ratified both the AfCFTA and Tripartite FTAs agreements, providing new export markets in fast growing and dynamic markets in East and West Africa.

Prior to assuming this position, Wamkele was Director: International Trade Law & Investment Law at the Department of Trade & Industry, a role in which he was principal legal counsel on international trade law and international investment law.

From 2010 until 2015, Wamkele represented South Africa at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. During his posting to the WTO, Wamkele was elected by over 130 governments to the position of Chairman of the Committee on International Trade in Financial Services, a committee comprising trade negotiators, financial regulators and financial policy makers from over 160 countries.

Prior to joining the government, Wamkele worked for the law firms Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in London and Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP in Hong Kong.

Wamkele has written and lectured internationally on international trade law, international investment law and international business law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Law) degree from Rhodes University in South Africa, a Master of Arts in International Studies & Diplomacy (with specialization in International Economics) from the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS), University of London and a LL.M. (Master of Laws) in Banking Law & Financial Regulation from the Law Department of the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE).

 H.E. DR. AMANI ABOU-ZEID  – Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid is the African Union Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Energy, ICT and Tourism. For more than 30 years, Dr Abou-Zeid has served in leadership positions in international organisations and has amassed a remarkable mix of experience from across continents and stakeholders.

She has managed AfDB largest operational portfolio and implemented national and continental multi-sectoral development programmes, including implementing the world’s largest solar power plant. In 2018, she launched the Single African Air Transport Market, delivering on the first flagship project for African Integration under African Union Agenda 2063. This year, she launched Africa’s digital transformation strategy and many other continental initiatives and projects.

An Egyptian national, Dr Abou-Zeid has a multi-disciplinary education: Electrical Engineering, Cairo University; MBA, Université Senghor; MPA, Harvard University; and Ph.D. Social and Economic Development, The University of Manchester.

 

Dr. Abou-Zeid was selected twice, in 2012 and again in 2019, one of “The 50 Most Influential Women in Africa; and was decorated the Wissam Alaouite from Morocco; she was named “Personalité d’avenir” from France; and received the “Outstanding Alumni Award” from the University of Manchester, UK — some of numerous international awards and recognitions.

 

Dr Abou-Zeid is member of the prestigious Global Leaders Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, and the Global Commission for Urgent Action on Energy Efficiency, the Stewardship Board for System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Energy as well as of the high-level panel on road safety.

 

Dr. Abou-Zeid sets the example for women in STEM and in leadership and decision making positions and is long named and recognized as champion of gender equality and women empowerment.

Dr. Abou-Zeid is passionate about classical music, plays piano, is a certified alpinist and competes to top positions in desert car rallies – among other interests and activities.

Paul Yaw Boateng, Baron Boateng is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brent South from 1987 to 2005, becoming the UK’s first Black Cabinet Minister in May 2002, when he was appointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Following his departure from the House of Commons, he served as the British High Commissioner to South Africa from March 2005 to May 2009. In 2001, he was made Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and was promoted to the position of Chief Secretary to the Treasury in May 2002, becoming Britain’s first black cabinet minister.
He currently chairs the English Speaking Union and the Nairobi-based Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund. He is also on the Board of the Ghana International Bank in the City of London, of which he is a Freeman.

His Excellency Papa Owusu-Ankomah is a senior Ghanaian political figure, statesman and lawyer. He is a founding member of the New Patriotic Party, which he represented in Ghana’s Parliament as a member from 1997 to 2016 for the historic city of Sekondi in the Western Region. During his tenure in parliament, he served in many parliamentary positions, culminating in his selection as Majority Leader in Parliament. His Excellency Owusu-Ankomah was a prominent member of the Kufuor Administration (2001-2008), during which he served in a record number of senior ministerial positions. He has served as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Minister of the Interior, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Minister of Education, Science and Sports. Aside from his political career, His Excellency Owusu-Ankomah is a leading member of the Ghanaian Bar, and the founding partner of Owusu-Ankomah, Arvo-Mensah, Dzigba and Associates.

Mr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu is the Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc. He has over 29 years of experience in the banking industry in Nigeria out of which 18 years is with Zenith Bank Plc where he rose through the ranks and was appointed the Group Managing Director/CEO on June 1st, 2019.

Mr. Onyeagwu is a graduate of accounting from Auchi Polytechnic, Nigeria. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1989 and became a Fellow (FCA) of ICAN in 2003. Mr. Onyeagwu is an alumnus of the University of Oxford, England, where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Strategy, and a certificate in Macroeconomics. He also undertook extensive executive-level education in Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia Business School of Columbia University, and the Harvard Business School of Harvard University, in the United States.

He is the Chairman of Zenith Pensions Custodian Limited and Zenith Nominees Limited. He is also on the Board of Zenith Bank (UK) Limited, FMDQ Holdings Plc, Shared Agent Network Expansion Facilities (SANEF) Limited and Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF). He also served on the board of Zenith Bank Ghana Limited, Zenith General Insurance, Zenith Securities Limited, Zenith Assets Management Company, Zenith Madicare Limited and Africa Finance Corporation (AFC).

Mr. Onyeagwu is married with children.

 Ebby is the Executive Chairman of IBURU, an advisory firm focused on Economic Development across Sub-Saharan Africa. He retired from Standard Chartered Bank, as Vice Chairman, Africa in 2015 after 30+ years in senior leadership. Prior to this, he was CEO South Africa and Southern Africa (2008-2013) and CEO Central and West Africa (2004-2008).
He holds an MBA in Finance and a Diploma in International Business and has attended senior executive development programs at INSEAD, London Business School, Templeton College, Oxford University and Cambridge University.
He was the first African to be appointed CEO of an SCB subsidiary after over 135 years of the Group’s presence in Africa. He successfully managed several subsidiaries in Southern, East, Central, and West Africa. He has broad experiences ranging from the establishment of greenfield operations to restructuring and repositioning mature businesses across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He has served on 15 SCB Boards, and is currently the Chairman of SCB Cameroon and SCB Côte d’Ivoire; Non-Executive Director SCB Mauritius and, CRDB Bank Tanzania, Advisor CDC Group, London, IFC/World Bank Consultant and Senior Consultant, African Development Bank, supporting the President and the Senior Director for the African Investment Forum
He was the Honorary Consul of Finland in Uganda (1996 -1997), where he spearheaded Finland Development initiatives in Uganda. He was a founding member of the Ghana Business Coalition against HIV/AIDS and has spearheaded clean water access and sponsorship of education, youth and sports programs across Africa.
He was a member of Ghana’s Investors’ Advisory Council, chaired by the President of Ghana. In South Africa he served as Director on the Main Board of the Banking Association, and Vice Chairman of the International Bankers’ Association. He serves on the Global Advisory Council of the London Business School and is a founding member and trustee of the Global Reach Network Foundation.

Mr. Hisham Ezz Al-Arab has been Chairman and Managing Director of CIB since 2002. Under Mr. Ezz Al-Arab’s leadership, CIB has received numerous prestigious international accolades, a testament to the Bank’s excellence in management and outstanding performance over the years. Among other awards, CIB received “Best Bank in Egypt” in 2020 by Global Finance, based on its strong financials and client-centric business model, and the leading private sector bank in the country. In 2016, CIB & AUC launched “AUC Venture Lab FinTech Accelerator”, Egypt’s first university based incubator and accelerator that supports FinTech entrepreneurs. In April 2020, CIB announced its acquisition of 51% of Kenya’s Mayfair bank. CIB is the first Egyptian bank to establish a presence in Kenya that would anchor CIB’s expansion in East Africa and strengthen the trade and investment ties between Kenya and Egypt.

On the social side, his passion to give back to society culminated in the establishment of CIB Foundation in 2010 which he chairs its Board of Trustees. Since then CIB Foundation became a leading Egyptian voice for universal access to quality healthcare extended to underprivileged children. On the professional side, Mr. Ezz Al-Arab, was rewarded for his “Outstanding Contribution to Financial Services in the Middle East” in 2016 and recognized as EMEA Finance’s “Best CEO in Egypt and Africa” in 2014 and was rewarded “CEO of the Year” by Global Investor in 2019.

Mr. Ezz Al Arab led the Federation of Egyptian Banks as Chairman for two consecutive terms (2013 – 2019), Co-chairs the Institute of International Finance’s Emerging Markets Advisory Council. He serves as Director of Mastercard Middle East’s Regional Advisory Board. Mr. Ezz Al-Arab serves as a Non-executive Director of the Board at Fairfax Africa and a non-executive Director of Ripplewood Advisors MENA Holdings.

Mr. Ezz Al-Arab joined CIB from Deutsche Bank and previously served with JP Morgan and Merrill Lynch in postings that took him to Bahrain, New York, London and Cairo. He holds a BA in Commerce from Cairo University.

Dr. Hippolyte Fofack​ is the Chief Economist and Director of Research and International Cooperation Department at the African Export-Import Bank​. In that capacity, he directs theoretical and applied economic research activities and advises the President and Executive Vice Presidents on matters relating to research, policy development and strategic directions. Prior to joining the African Export-Import Bank he was with the World Bank Group, where he served in several capacities, including as Senior Economist and Cluster Leader and Head of the Macroeconomic and Growth Program at the World Bank Institute. Dr. Fofack has published extensively and is a member of several leading professional and scientific organizations, including the American Economic Association, the African Finance and Economic Association. He is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, member of the Board of Trustees of the African Academy of Sciences, Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Issues in African Trade and Trade Finance, Associate Editor of the Journal of African Development and member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of African Trade.

Prof. PLO Lumumba is a Professor of Public Law, a holder of an LL.D (Doctor of Laws) on the Law of the Sea from the University of Ghent, Belgium, Master of Laws degree and Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi. Prof PLO Lumumba holds an honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) (Honoris Causa) from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. He is also a holder of the Degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) (Honoris Causa) from Bells University of Technology in Nigeria. He has been trained on Humans Rights at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies University of London in England, Humanitarian Law at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of the University of Lund in Sweden and on International Humanitarian Law in Geneva, Switzerland. He is an Advocate of the High Courts of Kenya and Tanganyika and a Certified Mediator. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya FCPS (K), a Fellow of the Kenya Institute of Management (FKIM) and Honorary Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS). He is the Chairman of Farafina Investment Group in Monrovia, Liberia and Economic Strategic Growth and Development Initiative for Africa based in Nigeria.

Emmanuel is currently Executive Director Fixed Income and Capital Markets at Matha Capital, a financial advisory firm based in Côte d’ Ivoire with active mandates in more than 8 African Sub Saharan Countries. He is currently involved in advising government and corporate clients on debt management strategies, including debt fund raising, advising on hedging strategies for interest and foreign exchange risks among other specific risks that African governments and corporates face on
foreign currency denominated debt. With 25 years of banking experience in various countries such as Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, Emmanuel has also spent considerable time in Zambia, Nigeria, India, covering high level financial market products and in leadership roles in Financial Markets with International Banks on Rates Credit Trading/ Fixed Income, Asset and Liability Management and other Treasury Management Roles. He was Executive Director in charge of Rates Credit Trading, Emerging Markets for Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, and West Africa (excl Nigeria). Until recently, Emmanuel was also in charge of the Financial Market’s division of the Ivorian subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank, with additional responsibility for Rates Credit Trading, Emerging Markets West and Central Africa. Emmanuel has also worked for Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe as Chief Dealer- Markets. As a member of the collaborative advisory committee of Ghana Stock Exchange and Bank of Ghana, Emmanuel was extensively involved in the drafting of the structures and regulatory frameworks that eventually created the Ghana Fixed Income Market [GFIM], which is the bond trading arm of the Ghana Stock Exchange. He has also been Vice-president of the Association of financial markets of Ghana (ACI_Ghana). Holder of a diploma in Treasury Management and International Trade finance, and the Dealing Certificate of the Association Cambiste Internationale (ACI) and Studying Msc International Banking and Finance. Country Head for the United Kingdom (UK), Brand South Africa
Pumela Salela is the Country Head for the United Kingdom (UK) under Brand South Africa, the custodian of the South Africa Country Brand. Her role is to market South Africa in the UK, attract foreign direct investment (fdi) into South Africa, mobilise Global South Africans (GSA) abroad and to manage the brand reputation of South Africa. Prior to serving in this role Pumela was the Chief Director for Economic Policy Development and Planning at the Department of Economic Development in South Africa.
Ms Salela is a Board member of the Global Sourcing Council, an Ambassador for Sustainable and Socially Responsible Outsourcing in Africa, and sits on the Executive Committee of the Tri-Sister City Alliance (TriSCA), the first Sister City Alliance between BRICS cities in order to create jobs for knowledge workers. She was appointed to be in the Advisory Council of the World BPO Forum, which is considered “the Davos of BPO”. Pumela also serves in the Advisory Board of the World Summit on Internet and Social Media (WSIM). She also sits in the Advisory Board of the Sable Accelerator LLC (SABLE), a North American organisation which is dedicated to helping South African entrepreneurs, new venture start-ups, academic institutions, and companies commercialize technology innovations, promote and protect intellectual property, fund new business concepts, finance growth, as well as expand into global markets. Pumela is also an advisor to a digital finance institution called Digifin. The Rockefeller Foundation acknowledged her contribution and innovation in formulating systems which address poverty by selecting Salela to be one the 18 global recipients of the foundation’s inaugural Global Fellowship on Social Innovation –an only South African to receive the honour.
Pumela has also worked as a BPO/ITeS Consultant for the World Bank, based at the organisation’s United States headquarters in Washington D.C. and a Director: BPO and O (Business Process Outsourcing and Offshoring) and Information Communications Technology (ICT) Enabled Services at the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), South Africa, where she was responsible for drafting strategies and policies to create an enabling environment for the BPO and ICT sectors in South Africa. The Director role was preceded by her position as Deputy Director for Investment Promotion at Trade and Investment South Africa (TISA – within the dti), where she was responsible for attracting and negotiating with potential foreign investors to set up BPO operations in South Africa. Pumela worked for a number of years in various marketing roles in FMCG multinationals and media organisations in South Africa and the United Kingdom before joining the public sector. She has also been a lecturer in Strategic Brand Management at VEGA, The School of Branding.
Salela studied to complete her MBA with distinction (cum laude) in England through a Nelson Mandela Scholarship. In her private capacity, Pumela is the Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Scholarship Alumni Association and a Mentor to Graca Machel Scholars. She is featured in the 2013 issue of the book: South Africa’s Most Inspirational Women. She has also been featured in 2012 issue DESTINY magazine as one of South Africa’s Young and Powerful Achievers. In 2013 DESTINY magazine showcased her as one of the Top 40 young leaders, innovators and job creators in South Africa (2013). Ms Salela has served as an On-air Advisor to investors on an Entrepreneurship Television Show called Rize Mzansi (meaning Rise South Africa) aired in the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in 2014.

Recently Special Adviser to the Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senior Power Infrastructure Advisor to the $90m, Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF II) where he was seconded to the Presidency, Bureau of Public Enterprises (Nigeria’s Privatization Agency) as the Head of Power Post-Privatisation team ($2bn+ Power Privatisation of GENCOs & DISCOs), to advise the board directors, enhance the power sector reform programme, develop sector policy, legislation, and for several years he was the Lead Safeguards Advisor at the World Bank $115m Public Private Partnership implementation Unit support to the Presidency, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Finance. He is also a board member of Africa 2.0 Global and Strategic Agenda ltd.Prior to this, Ayo He worked for Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in the British Aisles (Guernsey, Jersey, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Thomson Reuters, Milward Brown etc.

Anne has substantial experience in the African infrastructure space in risk management, operations and finance and currently works as Senior Director, Risk at Africa50. Prior to joining Africa50, she was Managing Director of Anvira Limited providing consultancy services in operations, finance and corporate governance functions for start-ups and established firms also in the African infrastructure space. From 2006 to 2016 she was the Chief Operating / Finance Officer at Frontier Markets Fund Managers (FMFM), firstly a division of Standard Bank plc and then operating as Harith Partners UK Limited. FMFM provided fund management and advisory services to the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF) and GuarantCo, both being facilities under the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG). Anne started her career in finance, accounting and operations positions at Standard Bank, Société Générale, BNP Parisbas and KPMG.
Anne holds an MBA from Cass Business School, London and a Masters in Control Systems Engineering from Imperial College London as well as a BSc (Hons) in Control, Instrumentation and Systems Engineering from City University, London. Anne is also a qualified accountant with over 2 decades of post qualification experience.

Akosua Dentaa Amoateng is an award-winning British Ghanaian entrepreneur. She was awarded an MBE in Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II’s 2016 Birthday Honours, and a year later in 2017, she received the Ghana Peace Awards Humanitarian Service Laureate in Accra, Ghana. In 2009 she founded the GUBA (Ghana UK Based Achievements) Awards, which recognises the achievements of individuals and organisations positively contributing to the Ghanaian community in the UK or Ghana. In 2011, she was named in The Future 100 Awards as a “Young Social Entrepreneur” of the year for her work with GUBA. Akosua is an advocate for the Ghanaian community in the UK and in 2017 she was put on the list of 100 Most Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs in Ghana for her advocacy by The African Network of Entrepreneurs.

Augustine is co-founder and President of the African Professionals Network Switzerland, and Lead Auditor at the Global Fund, one of the biggest health financing institutions in the world. Prior to that, he was a Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He serves on the Board of Directors of the African Investment Program for Innovation and Finance in Bern, as well as ASK – “All Special Kids” in Geneva. He has a wide range of experience in finance, governance, auditing and risk management in both the public and private sectors. Augustine has led and managed multiple projects in Africa, Asia and Europe. He managed PwC’s biggest portfolio in Africa, where he provided fund management services on the biggest health grant in the world. He also has good experience in frontier and emerging markets in Asia, having led projects in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam.
He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in the UK, the Institute of Chartered Accountants-Ghana, Institute of Internal Auditors in Switzerland and Ghana. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Ghana and holds a certificate in International Public Sector Financial Reporting from the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales.
