Wambui is a Risk Management and Financial Controls expert with over 14 years of experience in the Banking and Insurance industry in East and Southern Africa. She is a professional with exceptional ability and a great track record of delivering results in complex and diverse environments. She is an Ambassador of the University of Oxford and has recently been awarded a Distinction in Financial Strategy from Said Business School, University of Oxford. She was also a moderator at the very successful EBII Africa Investments Risk and Compliance summit held in July 2021, discussing how sustainable investments will support Africa’s long-term growth and development. Most recently, she served as the Head of Risk and Compliance at Britam Life Assurance Company for over five years. In this role, Wambui provided leadership in setting up and running the risk management function supporting 11 entities in 7 countries in East and Southern Africa, serving the interests of key stakeholders such as Board Risk Committees, Executive Management, Regulators, Shareholders, Financiers and the legal regime. Due to her invaluable contribution to the Business, she was rated as the most outstanding member of the Risk team and Business in 2019 and 2020. Prior to this, she held a global role at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited, where she was in charge of embedding financial controls. While at SCB, she performed peer review audits in 6 countries in the Eastern and Southern African regions. She also set up the East African Controls forum that met monthly and migrated best practices to the East African region. She also worked at KPMG within the Audit unit and gained experience in utilising risk-based, COBIT and COSO frameworks while coordinating external audits.
